Queen were formed in 1970 in London by guitarist Brian May, singer Freddie Mercury and drummer Roger Taylor. Bassist John Deacon joined Queen in 1971. Queen are one of the most popular rock bands ever with stunning live performances and have sold more than 300 million albums. The album Queen's Greatest Hits is as of 2007 the UK's best selling album.

Queen recorded the album A Kind of Magic, containing several songs written for the Russell Mulcahy film Highlander, which was released in 1986

The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert was held at London's Wembley Stadium in Mercury's honor in 1992. Musicians including Tony Iommi (of Black Sabbath), Robert Plant (of Led Zeppelin), Annie Lennox, James Hetfield (of Metallica), Axl Rose (of Guns N' Roses), Extreme, Roger Daltrey (of The Who), Def Leppard, Elton John, George Michael, David Bowie, Mick Ronson, Metallica and Liza Minnelli, along with the three remaining members of Queen, performed many of Queen's major hits. The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert concert that was televised to over 1 billion viewers worldwide.
