The virtual alternative rock band Gorillaz was created in 1998 by Damon Albarn of Britpop band Blur, and Jamie Hewlett, co-creator of the comic book Tank Girl. Gorillaz has four animated band members: 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel. Gorillaz' first album, Gorillaz, sold over 6.5 million copies earning gorilaz a place in The Guinness Book of Records as the world's Most Successful Virtual Band. Gorillaz' second studio album, Demon Days, was released in 2005 and went five times platinum in the UK and has sold over 6 million copies worldwide.
