Social disorder. Explosions. Ridiculous weaponry. There's really no denying that Mad Max was one of Mel Gibson's career highlights, especially considering he was virtually unknown at the time. In the first film of the trilogy, Max is the MFD's greatest fugitive chaser, a cop who likes to drive fast and always gets his man. But when a cyber-punk biker gang starts terrorising his family and his co-workers, Max has his work cut out trying to fend them off. Mad Max's post-apocalyptic styling popularised the genre amongst literary and film fans alike.
