Pop rock band McFly have had an impressive number of UK number one singles and albums since their first number one single, "5 Colours in Her Hair" in 2004. McFly won Best Pop Act at the BRIT Awards. The name "McFly" was chosen by Tom Fletcher, guitarist, vovalist and the band's founding member, because of his fondness for the science-fiction comedy Back to the Future series of films in which Michael J. Fox played Marty McFly.McFly made a cameo appearance in an episode of the BBC science fiction series Doctor Who.
