Torchwood Poster, Cyberwoman

large size 61 x 91.5 cm (24 x 36 inches) poster - Torchwood Poster, Cyberwoman

The Cybermen were originally a race of cyborgs from Earth's twin planet Mondas. Long-standing enemies of the Doctor in the British science fiction television series, Doctor Who, they first appeared in 1966, in the serial, The Tenth Planet, the last to feature William Hartnell as the First Doctor. A parallel universe version of the Cybermen appeared forty years later in the 2006 series' two-part story, "Rise of the Cybermen" and "The Age of Steel". These Cybermen also appeared in the two-part 2006 season finale, "Army of Ghosts" and "Doomsday". They re-emerged in Torchwood in the episode "Cyberwoman". At the height of the "Battle of Canary Wharf", due to their urgent need for reinforcements against the Daleks, the Cybermen began to directly convert whole bodies using regular Earth technology, rather than transplant their brains into parallel earth Cyberman shells. Lisa Hallett, was only partially converted when the power was shut off and she was rescued by her boyfriend, Ianto Jones who works for the Cardiff branch of the Torchwood Institute.
